Purpose of Soil Investigation
• Obtaining the necessary information to decide the superficial or deep foundation type,
• Determination of groundwater level (DGWL) status,
• To determine the engineering properties of soils,
• Determination of the bearing capacity of the building foundation,
• To identify potential problems such as sudden and temporal settlements, their effects and damages in the environment.
• Determination of the soil liquefaction potential,
• To recognize construction problems such as excavation with and without support, DGWL reduction, drainage and to obtain tips for its solution,
• Identify ways to address environmental geotechnical problems
Soil survey is important in terms of safety and economy. Ground inspections should be performed to eliminate uncertainties. Soil inspections vary in scope depending on the structure.
Field works; In order to determine the physical and mechanical properties of the structures planned to be constructed by mechanical ground drilling machine in at least two locations; It consists of an underground drilling process to determine the geological and geotechnical properties of soils, and taking intact tests (SPT; Standard Penetration Test) by performing in situ tests with sufficient amount of undisturbed sample (UD) in accordance with the project of the planned structures. During drilling, UD samples are taken at the ground level and sub-ground level in soil-like environments and SPT tests are performed every 1.50 m. Soil identification is made observationally in the field with the samples taken. In rock environments, the maneuver is continuously progressed with the barrel length of 1.50 m. The percentage of Fracture Rock is calculated on the core samples obtained and the Weathering, Strength and Fracture criteria are determined observationally. Groundwater measurements are made at least 24 hours after the completion of the drillings.
During the SOILTECHNIC field works; Drilling work The HOUSER 205 ground drilling machine uses Rotary drilling machines and equipment in accordance with TS and BS-5930 standards. The personnel structure consists of at least 3 persons. These; It consists of Geological Engineer, Drill (operator of drilling machine) and Drill assistant. SOILTECHNIC has joined the field staff in a harmony with experienced people who love and know their job and who have full knowledge of their professional subjects.
Soil survey is necessary to determine the suitability of a site for any structure, primarily for its safety and economic design. In a field to be constructed, all the works carried out in the field and in the laboratory to determine the thickness, types and engineering parameters of the layers in the said soil cross-section are called “Geotechnical Inspection” or “Soil Survey".
Soil investigation allows the determination of the thickness of the layers, natural unit volume weights of the layers, water contents, void ratios, soil classes, shear strength parameters, sudden settling consolidation parameters, and groundwater physical and chemical properties.
The basic system will be considered depending on the type of construction in Turkey Earthquake Building Regulations, to be selected according to the rules, it is necessary to pay attention to the places where the soil liquefaction. It should be kept in mind that if the foundation is not well defined and therefore the appropriate foundation system is not selected, it will create high power and costly problems.
